Finish Used: 8 Lacquer coats on top and shelves. Hand rub finish with pumice stone 2F/4F and Rotten stone.

Wood Species: Brazilian Cherry and Maple

Project Description:
My inspiration was blending 2 different types of wood. The original design was suppose to have dovetails joining the end grains together but since I could not get them right, a spline was used. Then I placed butterflies for the dovetails.

Dovetails are nice but I think I like the splines you used better for this project. They make a nice accent. Nice use of Brazilian Cherry and Maple.

That is a cool looking table. I agree, the two toned butterflies look nice. Simulates a dovetail connection, just not offset. Nice project!

If this is an occasional table, what is it the rest of the time? Just kidding… Nice work Corey. Will the 2 types of wood expand and contract the same with changes in humidity or is that something you don’t have to worry about with the amount of finish on it?

The table is beautiful! I love the two contrasting woods, but one thing I noticed was the contrasting grain as well….except for the one piece of Brazilian Cherry in the front right corner. It looks like the rest of the cherry is all very straight grained, and this one piece has some peaks to it which don’t quite seem to match the rest of it. Don’t get me wrong, I love the piece as a whole and you did a fantastic job, but for some reason it stood out to me.

At first look I was like wow, nice dovetails , then after looking at it I saw that they were not really dovetails but splines, Very nice job
The colors turned out great
