Nick’s Humidor Table

This was made as a present to my brother-in-law who is a cigar smoker and his wife who (in my opinion) needed furniture for her un-accented living room.

I learned the veneering techniques from watching David Marks, got the inspiration for the cabriole legs from reading Glen Huey, and the finishing/Festool use from watching The Wood Whisperer. Happy Holidays!!!!

Thank you all VERY much!!!! It was blast to make and an honor to present to my brother-in-law.
The ribbon striping of that Sapele Mahogany really makes it stand out.

No, the humidor itself IS removable from the table and can be transported all by itself. You probably can’t see them in the pictures I sent, but there are 2 really nice period style handles on either end of it for that purpose.

My brother (the computer guru in the family) set up a web page that has the step-by-step photos that I took while building it. It is http://www.nick.vanaria.net. If you go there, you will see all the steps I took in building and finishing it. (If anyone is interested in seeing them).

That is one beautiful piece of workmanship. I love the eye for detail and the matching of the woodgrain!

I’ve been using the General Finish Arm-R-Seal myself and I love it.

I’d love to know more about how you did the legs! I’m working up to a piece like that in the future and any words of wisdom would be awesome.

I took the step-by-step from one of Glen Huey’s articles in (I believe it was Popular Woodworking).
If I can find which article it was in, I will make sure to post it for you. Or, I will see if my brother can fix the link to the step-by-step pictures I took (which I just noticed was down).

Found the info you wanted.
I took the template from the October 2004 issue of Popular Woodworking magazine and used those techniques.
I DID go out and buy the Shinto rasp that he mentioned in the article. Best $28 (or so) that I ever spent. Makes shaping the legs a whole lot easier!!!!

As for the step-by-step photos I took. That link should be back up and active tomorrow according to my brother. So try it then.
