Ken’s TV Cabinet

Thought I would fire off some photos of the two projects I just finished. I built a coffee table for a client a few years ago and they now want a book case and TV cabinet that will all go in the same room. The book case is 35 1/2 X 14? X 39 1/2 (LxWxH), shelves 3/4″ thick. Solid walnut and maple.

The TV cabinet is 29 3/4 X 19 1/4 X 27 1/2 (LxWxH). Solid walnut and maple except for the back panel and interior shelf which are Baltic birch ply. I used offset knife hinges and ball catches for the doors and the dark glass panels allow the interior components to be controlled while the doors are closed. All construction for both pieces is mortise and tenon.

Beautiful work! I always loved how well walnut and maple go together, especially in a well executed piece like this.

it’s amazing how a few well placed, graceful curves can add so much to a project. the shelves in particular, really caught my eye.

Great pieces! I really like the stopped chamfer detail on the legs. I’ve never seen it done quite like that.

Gorgeous. And I love the use of the knife hinges and ball catches. I’ll bet Ken mortised the hinges by hand rather than bothering with a router. A real inspiration.

Now this cabinet has style! I concur with what Jason said, those curves really take it to another level. I thought the glass was grill cloth until I read your description. Great job!
