For years, people have asked to see my take on a miter saw station. Honestly, I never thought it would be all that interesting. To me, the ideal setup has always been pretty simple, a couple banks of cabinets with a saw in between. No gimmicks, no overbuilt features, just solid storage and reliable work support.
Once my Denver shop was finally in order, I realized I genuinely needed the storage and the extra surface area. That’s when this build came together, what I now call the Wood Whisperer No-Fence Miter Station.
This station is built around three cabinets with an 8-foot work surface to the left of the saw and a 4-foot surface to the right. The cabinets include a practical mix of drawers, doors, and pull-out trays, all on full-extension slides. The tops feature dual T-tracks and a fenceless design that allows you to use the entire horizontal surface without obstructions. Best of all, the design can be customized to fit virtually any sliding or standard miter saw.
The left cabinet run measures 96 inches long, 24 inches deep, and 36 inches high. The right side comes in at 48 inches long with the same depth and height. The center section is adjustable, with the plans allowing for a 24-inch-wide opening to accommodate the saw itself.
You might be wondering why there’s no fence. After years of working with miter saws, I’ve found that the stock fence is the only reference surface that really matters. Adding long auxiliary fences introduces alignment issues, calibration headaches, and problems with bowed stock. Instead, T-tracks handle stops cleanly and reliably, without getting in the way or reducing accuracy.
This video offers a quick look at how the station comes together and how it functions in a real shop environment. If you’d like a deeper dive, including detailed construction drawings and a full set of build videos, you can find everything in the Guild as part of the Miter Saw Station Plans.
At the end of the day, this design isn’t about reinventing the wheel. It’s about building something efficient, flexible, and realistic for a small shop. If you’ve been considering building your own station, these Miter Saw Station Plans might give you exactly what you need, without the unnecessary bells and whistles.
