love the way your gig has evolved over the years

question: sound insulation
how do you handle this one?
seems to be the only thing you did not cover in your vid.

do you not have a problem with noise and sound disturbance re your surroundings?
looks like you are in a neighbourhood environ. of sorts?

  I don’t have any issues at all. The shop is insulated and that’s about it. Doesn’t seem to disturb anyone in the house and definitely doesn’t bother anyone in the neighborhood.

Thank you Marc. Super informative tour & I appreciate you taking the time to do this and list out links to everything you discussed. It looks like you may have combined your outfeed & assembly tables into one. I am moving to a smaller shop and want to do the same. Any lessons learned from that you want to share?

  Combining them was a necessary evil for space. It’s much better to have a separate assembly table but when space is at a premium, you gotta do what you gotta do.

    Completely understand that constraint (moving to a 16’x 14′ shop with one open wall that I can swing stuff out into as needed. Did you keep the torsion box top or do something else with the combo table?

Marc great recap of the shop, I’m a bit jealous as I’m still in the building stage. I noticed an outlet by the work bench with 3 plugs a duplex and a single, all look to be 20 amp outlets. Just curious if it is 2 separate circuits or on same. Next up for me electrical, insulation, cover the walls, I have an epoxy kit to do and on and on.

  Those are actually the same circuit. 20 amp, with a single 220 outlet and a regular 110 outlet.

Marc, great video as always. What is the floor mat you use? I just spent last weekend in my shop (concrete floor) and my 50 year old back is still screaming at me…

Marc, Thanks for the great shop tour. I note your “dust collector” device for the top side of your table saw but don’t see any 6″ tubing go to the base/interior of the saw. (Powermatic’s web site just mention the “built-in” dust collection.) Is your saw fitted with such ?

  I just have a separate dust extractor vacuum set up for the overhead collection. It’s not part of the main system.

What was the name of the wood paneling you used in your shop? Did you ever consider a combined jointer/planer like a hammer or minimax instead of separate units? I just moved to denver can we be best friends?

  The paneling is T1-11 siding. As for a combination unit, I’ve always been lucky enough to have ample space for both. While that option exists, I doubt I’ll even go with a combo unit.

I was curious what kind of safety glasses you use with your respirator. I recently upgraded to using a respirator like yours but now find it is hard to have my safety glasses sit nicel and comfortable since they interfere with respirator. Just curious what you use.

Hi Marc, enjoyed the video. I have a question about the flooring. I’m laying sheathing down over my 200 year old barn board flooring and I’m looking at different tile systems, trying to guess what will work for me. I noticed that you don’t have any under the machinery and I’m guessing that you wouldn’t be able to roll 400-600 lb machines on that rubber. Is that right? I want something that’s smooth, that I can cover my entire floor and still be able to easily roll machinery around.
