All of my wood working tools are Jet (the little cousin of Powermatic). The primary reason being that as a hobbyist, I can’t justify the Powermatic cost but I still needed the similar quality and design.However, I will gladly accept a Powermatic saw as the Cherry on top of my shop.

I have a DeWalt contractor’s table saw; but would love a big, stationary unit. I just sold my first commissioned piece – a 48 x 24 x 14 shoe rack. Recently retired as a teacher and am slowly converting our one car garage to my shop.

Powermatic seems to always pump out quality equipment and tools. Love the brand. All good. Never had the privilege to use the table saw. Looks incredible.

Marc,
I just took delivery of a new 18″ bandsaw. I would like to get your opinion of where the blade should track to get best results. Alex at Carters did a presentation showing the bottom of the gullet at center of wheel and no drift adjustment after setting the roller guides. I bought the Laguna 18BX saw with ceramic guides. Most manufactures indicat the center of blade at center of wheel. All say drift is a property of the blade and must be accounted for by adjusting the fence.
Can you give your opinion based upon your experience with bandsaws and resawing thin veneers?

  From my experience, you have the best shot at getting the blade to track square to the table if you do as Alex says. That’s what I do and it works quite well. Ultimately, if you can easily adjust your fence it probably doesn’t matter either way.
