In March, the Guild will be embarking on our very first “Guild Build”: a simple Shaker end-table. I am dedicating the entire event to Guild-member Duane Moore. You remember Duane right? He’s the guy from the Steamer Trunk Series. Duane received some difficult news recently concerning his battle with cancer, and I am doing everything I can to help out. For every Guild member who builds this table, and sends me a picture of the finished product, I will donate $5 to the American Cancer Society. Now if you would like to help out, but you aren’t interested in joining the Guild, we have included a donation button below. Please spread the word about this event. This isn’t just about woodworking as a job or hobby, its about woodworking as a lifestyle, and woodworking as a Community. I want people to be inspired by what our woodworking community is doing, and perhaps even contribute to the cause themselves.

Hey marc you and nicole are awsome to drop all that you are doing and go out and help a fellow woodworker out, that really sayes alot for what you guys do and stand for. I cant wait for the project I hope you raise alot for the cause. Duane those were some really nice projects I hope you will be feeling well for the guild project and will be joining us.
I am getting some Cherry dropped off this weekend. Just in time to let it sit in the shop for a few weeks. Hey Marc, if I build two will you donate $10? Cant wait to get started. There are going to be a few first in this project for me.

Fair dinkum you people need to be formally acknowledged. :) Well done Marc and Nicole! Hopefully I’ll be able to build this project and send you the pics!
Great job Marc and Nicole. I know Duane and his family were honored to have you at their home. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Duane, and your family. Hang in there buddy.
saw this on Tivo last night. We’re building two as house warming gifts. Can’t wait to get started. Fantastic idea, Marc!
Hi all this is Duane.
You are right it was an honor to have Marc & Nicole pay me a visit. Most of you did not know but when he arrived I was terribly sick from chemo. I was up the entire night before he got there getting sick and I have to say Marc and Nicole were troopers about it.
Anyhow my shop is what helps me get to each treatment and through each treatment. Woodworkers are the best people around and I am so glad to be one. So I repeat Marc’s call to arms! Let’s show the world what woodworkers can do! COME ON everyone lets do this. I am getting chemo right now as I am typing this and you can bet as soon as I feel better I will be in the shop working on this table.I am also going to print some fliers and have the kids pass them out at the local woodworking stores.
God Bless and Thanks Marc for all of the inspiration at a time like this it is priceless
Duane
Hi Folks, I’ve been getting your getting your newsletter for a long time and have been enjoying it but not participating. What you did for Duane and his family is much more than the extra mile. I’m very proud of you and your company and to tell Duane our thoughts and prayers are with him and the family. I’m very active up here in Canada in the fund raising for cancer and more specifically Bone Marrow and Stem Cell research. So I will do something extra there in Duane’s name. Again Congratulations on your quick thinking, empathy and support. JohnT
While I haven’t built the Steamer Trunk, I have followed the series about the build, and how Duane is doing. It is odd how online communities can become real communities, making friends, and lending a hand, and prayers when needed. I have been involved with various hobby and civic organizations over the years, and aside from truly dedicated church folks, the woodworking community has been without a doubt, the BEST bunch of people as far as lending a hand, and stretching our hearts for our fellows… Thank you Marc for providing this outreach opportunity for us…
Marc,
Not much to say to you other than you rock. You almost made a grown man cry.
I miss Ohio.
Duane,
Hang in there buddy. I like to think good things come to good people. You have a real talent there.
Wow, Marc, that was awesome. Kudos to you and Nicole to reach out to Duane and his family! Having been through a similar family experience, I know the value of *anything* positive in a dark time like he’s facing increases exponentially. What you did for Duane was a very, very fine gift. My hat’s off to you.
Hey all you woodworkers!
I think what all of you do as being a woodworker, rather by hobby or occupation is a trade to be cherished. And the finished product made with your own hands has to be awesome feeling.
Also thanks for all the kind words towards my brother Duane Moore. You dont know it but it has really lifted his spirits during the valley he is in. I thank you all for that from the bottom of my heart.
Sandy Moore-Carter
Marc, thanks for organizing this little build. I’m looking forward to it for many reasons. first off, I’ve been going back and forth about joining the guild. Well I’m over that now. I’m excited to build this table and another thing I’ve been wanting to do is try out Bell Forest for lumber so this is a perfect opportunity. I decided that I wanted to take this a step further and once my table is completed I am planning on auctioning it off with all the proceeds being donated to the american cancer society. So I’m thrilled on many levels. I’ll let you know how it all works out.
Rock on….bt
Wow you guys are awsome..
Very classy Marc and Nicole. Very classy.
Duane and family,
There are a lot of people pulling for you. Thank you for allowing us all into your home and your hearts. May God bless you and your family, Duane.
By the way, GREAT looking top on that entertainment center! Beautiful contrast.
This just goes to show the character of you guys. Kudos to you, and Nicole.
Hi Duane,
This is a wonderful place to let friend know others care and love them. The woodwork is beautiful. Have a wonderful day in the Lord.
Your Christian friend,
Sharon
Duane – the crosses in the background are beautiful. Do you have any experience building a fullsized cross? I am building one for my church but not coming up with any great design ideas…
That donation tally keeps growing and growing. I am proud of my fellow woodworkers. Let’s keep that number going folks!
This is pretty cool, and just goes to show how supportive people can be..
You guys are wonderful and this is such a great cause. Most people will have someone close to them have cancer in their lifetime. I have several family members who are suvivors. Way to go Marc!
