Trevor’s Dial Indicator Jig

Marc, Having been inspired by your jointer setup video and living in the UK where sophisticated tools don’t exist, I saw a posting of a knife setting jig and this is my version. I am waiting the arrival of a second dial gauge (cost £12) but I was able to try it out and it works great. It’s made out of scraps and it took no more than 15 minutes to make. Apart from the cost of the additional gauge, it was FREE! Hope some of your readers find it useful. Cheers for now!

Nice little jig Trevor. Do you find it gives you noticeably better results than using a square? Or is it just faster?

Hello Trevor,

Nice jig. Based on your comment, you are planing on having two dial indicators on each side to measure the height of each end of the knife. Can you attach each block to to rod so they pivot together?

Don’t worry, we don’t have any precision stuff here anymore, we all need to get it from China just like you. :-)

Hi Trevor I like yor jig. I see we have the same jointer. Can you show another pic displaying how the gauge is attached to the board?
