Finish Used: My Santa painted with simple acrylic paint then rubbed with brown shoe polish. The polish gives it a antique look.

Wood Species: Basswood

Project Description:
Every year I carve a Santa to give out as gifts. This year here is another. The basic square look seemed to appeal to me. Adding the star added a little more character to this project.

Looks to be about 6-8″ tall, which is probably about perfect. A 4-foot one of those in my living room would totally creep me out!

Great job carving it! How long does it take you to do the carving on that?

  Yes I would agree, being as a life size type figure would be quite scary. You guessed it right on the nose. To the top of Santa’s hat down to the table top is 6″

The time to make is about 15 – 30 minutes to rough out with band saw, 1 to 2 hours to carve and 45 minutes or so to paint. If interested I would be glad to send you a full scale hand sketch.

I love the rustic look and that each year you have been making a Santa. it your “Holiday Tradition”.. and that adds to the value of the piece.
