Thomas’ Dust Collection “Rebase”

After seeing many do-it-yourself shop additions, I found my inspiration for a safe spot for the compressor and some much needed drawer space.

The box might not be as good as a vortex for separating dust, but it at least keeps larger objects from hitting the fan blades. And, it appears that the dust collection system moves more air than before.

In my shop volume is volume, and anywhere I can use it for storage, I am.

This is a great idea. Do you have any more detailed photos? I’m wondering how the air flows through with that cabinet, etc.

  Sorry for the delay.
  
  It flows great. In fact, I believe the are volume and pressure are better at my table saw. With the OEM layout it was in the same place as it is now, but it had flex pipe all the way over to the table saw. Now about 8-10′ of the flex has been replaced by solid pipe.
  
  Next time I have a chance I will pull it out take some more pictures.

This is most interesting–wish there were more particulars on “Thomas’ Dust Collection.” Is there any way Thomas could provide more information?

  I started a SketchUp model for it, I can’t make any promises, but I will try to finish it.
  
  My biggest concern was turning the motor 90 degrees, but after talking to a M.E. friend of mine, there should be no problem. And as I said in an another comment, air flow appear to be very good.
  
  Shop volume is all important when space is limited, the additional under the dust collection system is a real bonus.

That is brilliant! Thomas, I am going to steal your design and make only one mod : I’m going to put a bin in the box and direct the infeed towards it. This will enable me to empty the bulk waste easier.

What I really love is that you also put the air compressor on the stand. I have already moved my vacuum to be outside my basement shop (just the other side of the wall) and the noise reduction is very noticeable. I have been thinking about how to do the same with my compressor (similar to yours) and this is a brilliant idea !!
