Shawn’s Serving Tray

This week’s project comes from Shawn. He built a simple but elegantly-designed serving tray for a wedding gift for friends. Let’s hear what Shawn has to say:

Thanks for your help last week Marc, your suggestions were right on. More importantly my friends loved their wedding gift. Here are a couple photos and some details. I designed and built the serving tray out of birds eye maple with black walnut accents. This was my first time working with figured wood and I enjoyed it. The black walnut accents actually wrap around three sides (the bottom and two sides). I finished the tray with 3-4 coats of clear shellac and 3 coats of Minwax polyurethane satin. Dimensions – about 2 – 2.5″ H x 13″ W x 19″ L.
