Lill’s Quilt Rack

This sculpted quilt rack was made for my wife’s Aunt Lill’s 80th birthday. The design inspiration was taken from a grass leaf patter cut into the back of the metal benches at the local library. The quilt rack is made of maple and walnut. All of the shaping and sanding was done with rasps and hand held power tools.

Hey guys,

This is a really cool project that looks like it took some time! I am just now getting into sanding/shaping with rasps and I can’t imagine doing something like that right now. It is pretty cool though to see what is possible with time and patience! Thanks for sharing.

That project by Dyami made me look at Wharton Esherick designs and attempt some. Thanks for the inspiration Dyami. Some day I may need to make a quilt rack.

  Thanks, Tom. I’d say definitely build a quilt rack. What makes them such wonderful projects is the freedom you have of how to meet the requirements of a few horizontal bars of appropriate height and width.

Love it! That definitely would be a huge hit with the women folk in my life. Would love to have a nice ‘reminder’ type plan available. For now, I’m bookmarking this for sure.
