Inspired by watching Marc’s video build of the retro low entertainment center. I had a client call me up right after watching the series, and he wanted something very similar to match some log work I had done for him in the past. PERFECT TIMING MARC!

Cabinet carcass finished with 3 coats of hand rubbed danish oil. Slab top stained with 2 coats of wood conditioner, then 2 coats of stain. To top it off I gave the whole thing 6 coats of thinly sprayed on poly.

  Thanks guys! I had a lot of fun building this entertainment center. It was my first sketch up design too, also an idea from Marc.
  No, no rope lights. What you are seeing in the picture is just the light reflecting off an edge of one of the two plywood runners that I used under the slab top. They create an air channel, allowing built up heat to overflow into the adjoining spaces to keep components from overheating.
  One of the main factors in the design was what components my client was going to put into the spaces. I figured out the dimensions of electronics he was going to put in and their recommended “breathing room” and built it around those.

Nice looking, rustic, entertainment center Casey. The thick slab top and log corner supports gives one a safe feeling with such a large heavy TV on top. Goes nice with the TV.

I must say, nicely done. Most entertainment centers aren’t deep enough to handle high end components…yours is obviously taken that into consideration…bravo.

I am curious, has anyone taken into consideration small, quiet fans in the back to assist with cooling? If so, how did you handle it?

Wow that looks great. I just helped my neighbor remodel his basement in T&G pine and we used pine log siding for the chair rail and base board trim for a rustic look. You just gave me some good ideas for when we do his bar and cabinets.

You do some fine work and have a nice website to show off you skill/art. Thanks for sharing
