191 – Pasta Power

Video - January 16, 2013

During the recent Dogon Platform Bed project, I had to glue a long bevel for the headboard and utilized glued-on cauls. I was a little nervous about the glue holding and thanks to 35 years of eating delicious pasta, I was able to react quickly and prevent a falling clamp from doing damage to the project.

This gives me some inspiration to perhaps start a new blog extolling the virtues of a high carb diet with an Italian spin.

Cute video but does this really qualify as a numbered video in TWW archive? The free videos are awfully slim on content lately especially for someone who has already seen the ones that were previously on paid DVDs.

I remember back when I had to practice my ninja skills, before I got the Festool clamp catcher. Sure it was expensive, but it completely changed the way I approach glue-ups.

What kind of glue were you using on the cauls? Clamping angles is a new thing for me and I’ve seen people use them before, but always wondered how you minimize the work you have to do to your work piece after you get the caul off.

To me it looked more like spider senses. It seemed like you sensed it was going to lose grip and you reached for it even before it happened.

Great job there. You have very good reflexes. The video is amazing. I couldn’t help stop laughing. As mentioned in one of the comments, I really cannot imagine what would have happened if you wouldn’t have caught that clamp on time.
