In-Drawer Knife Block

I checked my mom’s Amazon wish list before Christmas and noticed a nice little bamboo in-drawer knife block. I thought she’s probably appreciate something similar made by her own son so I headed to the shop to make one. It took about two days, but the end result is pretty nice and my mom absolutely loved it. What’s great about this design is you can modify the width to suit your drawer and/or knife collection. Just make the dovetail keys longer and add more ribs.

Please note that because I essentially made a copy of something I saw for sale, I will not be providing plans or templates.

That’s beautiful, I’m guessing you designed the cutouts so they were concave, such that the knife blade itself isn’t touching wood very much? I suspect my wife would love something similar – thanks for the idea!

  After watching the video through – I didn’t see a step for making the cutouts concave, so I’m going to guess the wood simply isn’t hard enough to damage a knife edge? I’d always been counseled to store my knives without the knife edge resting on a hard surface, but it always seemed like odd advice given the hardness differential. Perhaps I’ve been overly cautious all these years…

  The video explains why there are no plans. But you don’t really need them. The video guides you through all of the steps to replicate it.
