Was fortunate enough to build a new shop recently from the ground up. With some reluctance, I decided to run dust, electrical, and compressed air through the concrete slab underground. I was concerned about condensation forming or clogs. I’m happy to report all of that was wasted worry. The one clog I’ve had so far (running a planer after the dust collector was full filled up the underground 6in PVC piping) was easily cleared with a leaf blower on one end pushing into a cleaned out dust collector. I also built so that the compressor and collector were in an exterior closet to keep the noise down.

Well as to the dust collector, you do have that loft space up above. I have heard of some folks (like DownToEarthWoodworker?) who’ve put their cyclone up in the attic.
Mind you, i’m not sure how one would get heavy dust bins up/down from the attic!
