Ray’s Shop and a Morris Chair

Originally intended as a small upgrade to the wiring and to build a small work bench, I discovered a huge carpenter ant problem. After tearing out the entire back wall and rebuilding, I decided it was time to go all the way. So I refinished the entire shop inside and out, as well as a new roof and overhang. I then proceeded to purchase as much new equipment and gadgets as I could muster to fill it up.These are pics of the now finished shop, as well as a pic of my first Morris chair.

Great looking shop. I noticed the General table saw and other gear so I figured you might be a Canuck. So “Ray from Canada”, where in Canada are you from (and I realize Marc may have to forward this on to you)?

      Sorry about the slow response…got side tracked. Yes, as a matter of a fact, I’m the guy in charge of the door prizes for our meetings (I’ve been given the task of “fund raising” which is a real misnomer). Join up. It’s a great group of guys and gals…we are also getting a special Lie-Nielsen presentation at West Wind Hardwoods in Sidney this Thursday evening for paid up guild members (if you join via the web your in)…they are doing their event thing Friday and Saturday but Guilds get special treatment.

  I made the stringers out of eastern maple and the rest is out of western maple. I call it “east meets west”

That’s a nice, well organized shop. Looks like a pleasant place to work.

Great chair. Not exactly a simple project. Looks like birch or maple rather than the typical oak. An interesting visual change.

Nothing like a neatly organized, clean shop. My shop seems to go from hospital-clean to total chaos in very short order … and often with no stops in between. I just finished hooking-up my dust-collection system over the weekend and maybe that new capability will establish some middle ground in the battle of shop mess.
