Since I posted my last shop tour I have moved shops twice. I left the garage shop almost a year ago for 1100 sq ft of commercial bliss, or so I thought. After getting moved in and working in there for 6 months I realized that there was just not enough room to complete some larger projects, or a few small ones for that matter. I started looking for a new space and stumbled quickly upon my current shop. It is 1800 sq ft with 16′ ceilings and a 12′ by 12′ overhead door. So let the moving process begin…again. Thanks to the help of family and friends, two of which are WTO members, CT Proctor and Duckkisser, the move went off without a hitch. The shop is primarily set up for furniture and cabinet making. There are 2 cabinet saws, the Saw Stop is for general use and the Unisaw is dedicated for dados. The rest is all pretty standard with an 8″ Delta jointer, 13″ planer, 2 router tables and a Jet shaper, Rikon bandsaw and a Porter Cable pocket hole machine. In the back of the shop is an Italian made coral spray booth accompanied by 2 air assisted airless sprayers, one for pigmented lacquer and one for clear finishes.

My focus when setting up this shop was to have as much open floor space as possible while maintaining an efficient work flow. I hope you all enjoy.

Looks like there is a lot of walking from one place to an other……… Boy I wish I had that problem. Very nice set-up, a lot of room for building and to grow.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. It looks like a lot of space but it fills up quickly when we have a few good projects going. We have added more stuff since the pics were taken. There is now a large assembly table in the middle with power hooked up to it, a tool triggered vac system and sanders. We have also added a Powermatic (needed some gold in the shop) drum sander.
Todd your right i love those AAA makes finishing easy!

Jealousy is a terrible thing!
I am also just starting out in my garage as a business and can’t wait to be able to afford a larger space. What used to be a fun place to work has quickly become a very cramped and sometimes frustrating place to work.
Enjoy your cavernous (to me, anyway) work space!

  Good luck on your new venture. You can find my first garage shop in the tour section. It is really hard to make the first move out of the “safety” of a garage and make the plunge into overhead. My first move out of the garage was into a 1100 spft space that costs $600 per month (cheap for my area) I quickly out grew that space and found my current one at 1800 spft. for $850 per month (really cheap for my area). Make calculated decisions and you will be fine. Just remember; think small, act small, grow big. Think big, act big, grow small.

I see you have one of your rolling cabinets as a reception desk. I am about to turn my same style of cabinet into a lathe stand.
I hope the work flows enough to keep the new premises viable.

  The rolling cabinets work well. It’s makes for great storage in the office until I build something permanent. I think you will be happy using it as a lathe stand, plus you can’t beat the storage. Business has been going well (cross your fingers) and hopefully continues. thanks for the comments,

Where did you pick up the green PVC pipe ? Is it expensive ?

  It is just S & D sewer pipe. I think i get it for a few bucks a foot or even less. It works pretty well and assembles quickly.

  I Bought my drain and sewer pipe at Menards. I think the green stuff is Schedule 30 pipe. Its a lot cheaper than Schedule 40, and lighter

  Thanks Bart, The spray booth is really nice but takes up a lot of room and costs a lot of money to run and maintain between insurance, filters, etc… Nice to have though.

Dustin, this is fabulous. Its very important to set your shop up to grow and flex as different jobs come in and out. You are lucky to have some good helpers! I would love to know about your sawstop outfeed table. Its georgous… What material is that on top? Also, the substrate?

  thanks for the kind words. The out feet table is Black Formica in Gloss finish. It was an exact match to the factory laminate on the table of the Saw Stop. The sub-strait is just particle board built up around the edges and is all held up by a workbench. Thanks again
