ATTIRE
The weather in February and March in this part of Missouri is generally chilly but surprisingly mild. We also don’t typically have a lot of precipitation. The shop is insulated and heated so we’ll be cozy and warm inside either way. Dress comfortably and be prepared to do some woodworking! Please check Wentzville’s weather before joining us.
TOOLS & SAFETY GEAR
All major tools will be provided but you are more than welcome to bring any small portable tooling you want. Some folks like to bring their own hand tools for the final surfacing of parts but this is definitely not a hand-tool focused project. Please bring all appropriate personal protective gear for eyes, ears, and lungs. We will have PPE on-hand for anyone that can’t bring their own.
LODGING AND ATTRACTIONS
Nicole has created a shared Google doc to reference when visiting The Wood Whisperer Shop with a ton of information on the area and recommendations.
WHAT TO EXPECT
This is our first year holding classes at the Wood Whisperer shop and we hope that by keeping the class size small, we can ensure everyone has a fun and productive experience. Here are just some of the topics we’ll cover in this class:
- Domino joinery
- Material and grain selection
- Cutting and faring curved components
- Working with templates
- Flush trimming
- Notch joinery
- Adding brass to footrests
- Creating a woven seat
- BONUS TOPICS (if time allows): Finishing and generating templates using the Shaper Origin.
GETTING YOUR PROJECT HOME
If you drive, the bar stool will fit in pretty much any vehicle. If you need to have the item shipped to your home, you’ll want to skip the final assembly step so that the stool can be flat-packed for easy/inexpensive shipping. Fortunately, 99% of the work is done at that point and the very last thing to do is the final glueup of several sub-assemblies. We do not charge for shipping your item but we will pass on the shipping fees to you.
