schwarz1Christopher Schwarz, aka “The Schwarz”, just announced a sweet new feature over at PopularWoodworking.com. Its called Woodworking Now. Its a huge collection of hand-picked articles from Popular Woodworking and Woodworking Magazine from the last 10 years. You can browse the collection by topic or project, or even use the search to find the exact article you’re looking for. This is a great alternative to buying full back issues and makes a lot more sense in this brave new “on demand” world. So check it out if you get the chance.

TheSchwarzFrontBack And I can’t mention “The Schwarz” without reminding everyone that we have our super sweet “May the Schwarz Be With You” t-shirts available. You can pick one up in The Wood Whisperer Store.

Maybe it’s because it is a new offering and needs the benefit of feedback, but I was not impressed. They are offering articles for $1.99 with a VERY brief blurb about the contents. Without more up-front information on what I was getting, I won’t be plopping down my two bucks. Hope they do better than this.

Love the Schwarz, and PopWW is an okay mag, just one perhaps unrelated note: I should not have to provide my home mailing address to sign up for a weekly E-MAIL newsletter… I’m not a privacy nut, I’m quite happy ordering online and so forth, but that tweaked my privacy radar… and if you’ve ever had your privacy radar tweaked, you know how painful that can be… B-)

Considering the price of a magazine 1.99 seems like a bit high. I think going the itunes route .99 would be better. Sounds silly I know two bucks ain’t much different the one, but it is a jedi mind trick type thing.

My 2 cents. I must disagree with rgdaniel. PWW is alot better than an okay magazine. It is my number 1 subscription along with shopnotes.

Seems a little much for an article that I could get at the library. I understand convenience is the key but $2? Anyway, how is the house selling going? Just wondering since I am very curious about the shop building process from foundation to roof and everything between including tool floor plan. Sell that house and get started on your shop!!!

I agree with Jim Jones. The description is very brief and the pictures are very small. All other sites I’ve been to at least show a bigger picture and most have more of a description which definitely helps in making a purchasing decision.

As far as rgdaniels concern goes, here is a link to their Privacy Policy: http://fwmedia.com/privacy

When I first looked at the site, I thought there was more to it than I was seeing, so I signed up. I’m not sure why since it appears that I can purchase any of the downloadable articles anyway, and being a download they don’t need my home address or phone number. And I did find that the site was a collection of articles from the last 10 years of publication but no more.

However, I have not seen one of their Newsletters yet, so that may add value to the matter.

Marc, don’t post stuff like this anymore. Okay? All you do is make people want to spend money. After catching up on all your Podcasts and WoodTalk Online, i’m done I tell you. Broke. Zip Zero Zilch. So, no more of these posts or any posts for that matter. Thanks!

  8. David says:

All things considered $1.99 is a great deal. Thanks for the info Marc.

  9. Evan says:

1.99 seems high for one article. They better be really good.
