Re: The FWW forum, Marc I'm with you. I haven't visited "Knots" in many months, because you're right; the Prospero forum SW sux big time. 'seems reminiscent of, I dunno, Compuserve (I'm showing by age. ;))? Not only that, Prospero auto-censors posts based on sometimes baffling criteria. I used to write something and be baffled at why they replaced some words with ###.

I thought that the discussion you and Tom had about lead was very valuable. I would not have really even thought that it would still be that much of an issue, but I am grateful that you made me aware of any risk or liability in the future. Thanks.

In regard to Tom's Lead Article, I hope ultimately, that the onus is on the manufacturer of wood finishes to keep the parts per million of lead low enough (zero?) to avoid the need for lab testing a final product. I know lead has been used historically as a metallic drier but now other metals are used for this function. Although I don’t know how you would document for the regulators, or any legal issues, what particular finish or finishes you used.

If that can't be, then perhaps they can release lead test kits like they did when china dishes were the concern for lead content. Again, I'm not sure how the test results of individuals testing the lead content of their finished wood piece(s) would be validated and documented, but I'm sure they could work something out.

Another great show-love the intro!!! Just my two cents as far as the replaceable knives go, a buddy of mine has those and I have resharpenable ones, we compaired costs a while back and found that at least in our area (rural Mn.) it is way cheaper to resharpen. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone.
