Ten Shop Tips – Powermatic Website Exclusive

In cooperation with Powermatic, we recently filmed 10 “shop tip” videos. The videos are a Powermatic website exclusive, but they are really like a bunch of short Wood Whisperer episodes. In fact, this is almost an updated shop tour, which a bunch of folks have been asking for. And as an added bonus, you get to see my best Zoolander impression! Enjoy!

I love the advertising shots. They almost make you look serious and professional.

  2. MorningWood says:

Good Job Marc! You get a Gold Powermatic Star.

  3. David in Charlotte says:

I like the videos. But I have a couple of questions..

Who are you and where is your shop? :)

Keep up the good work Marc.

  4. Tooladdict says:

Just when I thought I couldn’t love you any more than I already do… you actually hyperlinked “zoolander” to Imdb.

    What a nerd!

    I heart you

  5. lol Kendall. I love you too man……in a very manly sort of way…..

And David, in retrospect, putting that in front of every video was a bit of a mistake, lol. I annoyed myself after the third one. The problem was I didn’t know how they were going to roll out these videos, so I put that clip in front of each one as an identifier. My bad. But there will be a quiz later on that exact question. Who is your daddy, and what does he do? Oh wait, that’s another movie. 5 points for anyone who guesses it.

PowerMarc – The New Gold Standard!

Another great job. I enjoyed the updated shop tour. The series gave me lots to think about when it comes to setting up my shop.

Thanks for sharing the link with us.

  7. naterino says:

Hey Marc, I’d hate to be “the party pooper” and answer your question. Besides “I have a headache. It might be a tumor. It’s not a tumor!” Good thing “my dad’s a gynecologist.” He always used to say, “You kids are soft. You lack discipline.” I wish my kindergarten teacher had ended up as a governator!

  8. Vic says:

Marc, I’m only half way through the videos. This is a nice fix after experiencing the withdrawal from Safety Week. Would you either give more detail/discussion on your plywood “press” or email me with the info. I’m gonna have the same problems, due to our wonderful desert environment.

  9. Denis Rezendes (Teen Age Woodworker) says:

    nice Marc,
i just finished watching them and they were really nice.

  10. Kyle says:

kindergarten cop. do i get 5 pts?

  11. haha sorry kyle. Naterino beat ya to it. :) You do get 1 point for the effort though. :)

  12. Kyle says:

damn i was trigger happy. i scrolled through to fast. if i collect 50 ww pts do i get a free t shirt?

  13. Peter says:

    Hey Marc,
I see you just got a custom PM 2000!!! I was wondering why a blade guard was on your TS….. NICE JOB!!! How do you like it?

  14. Hey Peter. Good eye. I absolutely love the new saw. Powerful, smooth, and pretty to boot.

And you ask, “why a blade guard?” Isn’t that like asking, “why a seatbelt?” lol. I will use the blade guard as long as it makes sense. I fear I may have to lose it though once I switch to the low-profile riving knife. We’ll see though.

  15. Todd says:

Help. I tried the powermatic link and it says the server is unavailable. Can you fix the link so I can watch the video. Please and Thank you.

  16. Germain says:

Ah, gee. I finally got a chance to watch the videos and PM took the site down for maintenance. They probably had to switch to a new server to handle all the bandwidth Marc’s viewers have been generating.

  17. hmm. I doubt we sent THAT much traffic. But its fun to think that we did. lol.

  18. so normally after i type a comment, it shows up as unmoderated, but my last comment just disappeared after the submit. Did it come through or is the submit button connected to a ‘useless’ filter that drops useless comments?

  19. Okay, more cowbell and more useful info this time for the filter!
I like those anti-fatigue mats, too. I have the same interlocking variety as well as some 4×8 gym workout mats that are actually much nicer if you can find them; they don’t puncture, come apart, etc.
When I first got the interlocking mats, they were horribly full of static; made working on them annoying (think leg hair, static noise, and dust that cannot be removed at all). I fixed the static problem by filling a bucket with warm water and adding a bit of liquid fabric softener then washing the mats down. No more static (been 6 months!) and dust comes off easily.
