Announcing the four winners of the contest!

Well, I have to admit folks, this was a VERY tough decision. As you know by now, so many projects were sent in that we (Nicole, Mom, and myself) had to start the selection process before even posting contestants to the site. Now I should disclose our selection “criteria”, if you want to call it that. It wasn’t scientific at all but if I were to break it down, I would say we looked at three attributes: “holiday spirit”, story, and quality. So for instance, a project that wasn’t technically difficult, but looked decent and had a great story attached would have a solid chance at winning. An absolutely gorgeous piece that had a high degree of difficulty, but no story and no clear connection to the holiday would have less of a chance.

The decision was so difficult, in fact, that I decided a “People’s Choice” poll might free up one of the winner’s slots, allowing us to select a 4th winner. And that’s exactly what happened. So let’s start there.

People’s Choice Winner:

Chad Eichler’s Painting Easel – Chad’s project was one of our top picks, and the people agreed. He took 26.5% of the 556 votes! A technically challenging project that was creative and beautiful, with a heart-warming story to boot. Having his mom come to the blog and post a comment was just the icing on the cake! Well done Chad!

The TWW Winners:

Clint Russell’s Scroll Portrait – When I first saw this project, I was immediately touched by the story. Perhaps it was because we also lost a loved one recently, but this project pulled at our heartstrings. It also happened to feature some technically-challenging scroll-work. An amazing way to remember a special loved one. Congratulations Clint!

Jeff Waggoner’s Bedford Falls Sign – We are suckers for classic Christmas movies in this house. This sign is just one of those fun, whimsical projects that really captures the holiday spirit. You know, the kind of spirit that makes you go all Griswold on your house? The sign is well-made and as usual, Jeff got the whole crew involved in the project. Well done Jeff and family!

Yaakov Bar Am’s “Chai Boy” – What’s not to love here?! A well-crafted project and a Hebrew language lesson rolled into one! The play on words had me laughing from the moment I saw it and the creativity and craftsmanship really won us over. L’Chaim!

So congratulations to all of our winners! Each will receive a One Year Guild Membership (or an extension if they are already a member). As cousin Eddie would say, “Clark, that’s the gift that keeps on giving the whole year!” A sincere thank you to all the folks who sent in their projects and we hope you had a wonderful holiday! Happy New Year!!
