Thank you for making it easier to access your video archive. It was not that they were overly hard to find, I just didn’t think about them unless I had a specific need. I have been re-watching them in order and had forgotten how much I enjoyed them the first time around.

  2. John Daugherty says:

I’ve got several eagle america bits. They make a fine bit! Chris usually does a great job with his books also.

  3. dan rightler says:

i’ve been wanting a set of those router bits for a while now. if i win, you can be my BFF ;) thanks for all the great info and the inspiration to do more woodworking.

  4. lc says:

    please, wish me lucky!

I’m VERY happy to have one 21century workbench in my workshop

I really like to have the Chris Schwarz new book

(international usps – I’ll pay for that)

  5. WiZeR says:

    Here’s my entry ;)

  6. MikeD says:

These are exactly what I need to finish up a Jatoba table I have been working on. I picked up some from a furniture maker going out of business. He is selling it for $2/bf.

  7. DTharp says:

I’m quite interested in the plywood edging bits, any chance Marc gives us a Matt-esque “ROUTER BIT OF THE MONTH(emphasis Matt’s)episode?

Also, is a forum post the same as a comment for the monthly giveaway entries?

    • thewoodwhisperer says:

I’ll have to see if there is a way for me to fit that into the schedule. Great idea! And unfortunately, no, the forum posts do not count.

  8. Eric Wolf says:

I’m with DTharp. I think you should do a Matt impression for Router Bit Of The Month.

I’ve been wanting that bit profile for a long time now. My hardwood edges have just been butted up against the plywood and glued, and I just haven’t been able to scrape together the 70 something bucks for the set of the edge banding bits.

  9. Roger Eden says:

I want to make a podium for my church, and that bit set would come in real handy! Thanks for all your great work Marc

  10. Cody C says:

I browsed through Handplane Essentials at Barnes and Noble this morning and it looks like a quality book. I’ve been wanting to become more of a hand plane user and it looks like a good place to start.

  11. Pete says:

This looks like a great opportunity. I have been debating picking up Chirs’ new book. Now I just have to wait and see if I’ll win one.

    Thanks Marc!

  12. AnthonyBklyn says:

Wow Marc! Great prizes, I have been wanting those bits for some time, and the book sounds great as well. I haven’t used planes mostly because I don’t have any, but I’m sure if i had the opportunity to read the book would be a good push. Good deals Marc! Good deals!

  13. Patrick says:

Thanks for all you do for woodworking Marc. It’s nice to have a website all woodworkers, from novice to expert, have access to for all kinds of information. I looked all over your site for something about building an aftermarket drill press table. Any plans available you would recommend?
    Thanks again.

    • thewoodwhisperer says:

Thanks Patrick. I really appreciate it.

I am not aware of any particular drill press table plan that I can point you to. But I did do a quick Google search for “drill press table plan” and there are a number of good ones out there. If you can’t find what you’re looking for there, this is a great thing to ask in a forum. Either ours or Woodnet or Sawmillcreek. I am sure you’ll get tons of suggestions from folks who’ve built them.

And frankly, I think a drill press table is long overdue for The Wood Whisperer’s shop!

      Good luck!

  14. dymphna says:

i am a female who grew up with her carpenter grandfather. I LOVE wood the smell of it, what you can do with it, I even had a construction job and framing was my favorite. I want to learn more and have more tools to use.

  15. Jarred Edgecombe says:

Your entertainment center video gave me an idea for our school’s wood shop. Most of the wood we have is cherry plywood that has been donated by a local yacht company. Since we have an overabundance of cabinet grade sheet goods and very little hardwood. I am going to see if any of the boys are interested in the entertainment center project.
    thanks Mark

  16. Clint Hertz says:

Looks like a great bit, and book. I agree i would like to see at router bit episode. Also anyone ever use a miter lock bit? I’m thinking of making a bed with 4X4 legs, and am thinking about using 3/4inch boards with miter lock to make them, also considering glueing up 2 8/4 boards and makiing them solid.

  17. Jack says:

Matt you continue to offer great information on your site, very impressive, keep up the good work!

  18. Jeff says:

I’ve just gotten into woodworking, and your videos have been a great help to me on everything from concept, to machine safety, and production of the pieces.

  19. TedM says:

As one who is moving slowly, though not reluctantly!, towards the more use of hand tools I believe that the Schwarz’s new book, Handplane Essentials, will be welcomed on many a woodworker’s workbench.

  20. Steve says:

    Marc,
thanks for all the great content on your site and podcasts. I have started wood working again after a 30 yr hiatus. There is a lot of catching up to do but you have given me a great resource.
    thanks!

  21. John Bratton says:

Thanks for the podcasts. I have told some new woodworkers about them and they especially like them.

Glad to be a woodworking pimp.

    JB

  22. Nick says:

We are just about to open a community shop in Royal Oak, MI. Check out i3Detroit.com if you are in the area. Going to have some great woodworking tools. Love the podcast and site.

    Nick

  23. Jonathan says:

Very nice selections. Maybe Handplane Essentials can help me restore the #5 I found at the flea market. I love my planes. Now a #3/block and a low angle #7 veritas the the #5 is an old Stanley. Next will be restoring the molding plane I got with the #5.

  24. Raf says:

I spent my Saturday lapping and the sole of a couple of old planes I had lying around… I’m sure “Handplanes Essentials” would help me do a better job.

  25. Michael says:

I have heard that the book is a good one. Chris even had help signing some of the copies. Is this one of those with the additional signature?

  26. Al says:

I’m a newbie to woodworking. I wouldn’t even call myself a woodworker yet. I’m currently trying to get a basic shop set up. I have been looking for some plans for some very simple easy to make items to make for presents. Any suggestions or sources you might suggest would be appreciated.

I really enjoy your videos. I’m sure I’ll be attempting some of the projects in the future after I get a bit of experience. I found your site through Leo Laporte’s episode you were on.

  27. Erick says:

Much to my amazement, my shop recently has experienced a rather odd phenomena. My woodworking planes are reproducing. What was a collection of 4 hand planes has recently become 12. I can only explain this result as a naughty nocturnal lovefest. They’re breeding like rabbits! The LOML isn’t buying this theory, but it’s the only explanation I’ve been able to come up with.

I’m hoping Chris Schwarz’s book can help me better understand the romantic tendencies of woodworking planes. Marc, please help!

    Thanks,
    Erick

PS: I see you have the same problem with your clamps !

  28. aaron cashion says:

Really could use the book. Finally startting to see the value of hand tools. Maybe this month is the month.

  29. James ryan says:

Just bought the book, it A great all around overview. For somebody who is a beginner thus is just the ticket.

  30. Bob Rankin says:

I think the videos are helpful, especially the product reviews and equipement tutorials. Question: Now that you own a Festool Domino, do you ever do regular mortises?

    • thewoodwhisperer says:

Actually, when I got the Domino, I used it a lot in my business. It was so fast and easy that it just made sense. Now that I don’t really make furniture for clients anymore, I hardly ever use it. A big part of woodworking for me is the process. And the Domino, while an amazing invention, robs me of some of that process. And it certainly doesn’t do the woodworker’s who watch my show any favors. So to be honest, I haven’t used my Domino much at all.

I am doing some chair repairs right now for a local restaurant. And time is money again so I pulled out the Domino and it did an incredible job.

  31. Sherlock says:

I’m new to woodworking (and to following this site). It looks really interesting. Is there usually a mix of power tools and hand tools like the two giveaways? In my quick scan of the site I saw a lot more power tool articles/posts.
Thanks for all the effort to share this information, it is really a big help for newbies like me!
    Sherlock

    • thewoodwhisperer says:

Welcome Sherlock. I think you’ll find a stronger focus on power tools here, simply because my site and videos are a reflection of my personal woodworking style. I don’t usually use hand tools to mill my stock but I sure do use them to fine tune joinery. So you’ll frequently see chisels, saws, router planes, shoulder planes, and things like that making appearances when you’d least expect it.

  32. Chuck Isaacson says:

You can never have too many router bits!!!

  33. Tom says:

Nice to see that you’re honoring both hand tools and power tools in your contest. TWW is a good reference for many projects.

  34. Don trust says:

    Marc,

Well, the either of those prizes would be great, and I do have one helpful comment.

I have been fighting a hand plane for years ( a Stanley that i bought new). I always thought I was just doing something wrong. Could never get it to work right. Well, just yesterday I took it all apart at work (I work in a machine shop) and looked it over completely. The base was not flat by almost 1/32″!!! The blade was sharp but tapered side to side by about 1/16″ I reground both the base and blade to flatness way beyond what is needed. (hey, had the equipment so why not use it) the base is flat now within .0003″ :-)

Now it works like a dream. Can’t believe I waited so long to do that. Just goes to show that “new” doesn’t always mean ‘ready to use’.

BTW, thanks loads for all the info on this site. It’s a wonderful resource for all of us.

    Don

  35. Caleb Sarty says:

As a cabinet maker I’m happy to see this American Eagle bit set. All to many times I see a simple glued butt joint for plywood edging or edge banding come loose from the plywood in a short amount of time (and don’t get me started on ugly brads used to hold edging in place). With this bit set you are providing more surface area for the glue to bond between the two pieces. This looks like a product I will definitely employ in my workshop in the future.

I’ve seen a few you-tube videos of Chris’ regarding hand planes and will happily pick up this book at my earliest convenience. he’s a wealth of information on the subject.

  36. aaron cashion says:

Looking forward to trying out some eagle america. Only bits I have used so far are rockler, bosch, and whiteside.

  37. Jim Crockett says:

Never have had any luck using a handplane so I’m sure the “Handplane Essentials” would be very useful!

The Eagle router bit sounds like a keeper, especially if you use plywood often as I do.

Marc, thanks for all you do for the woodworking community. I have learned much from your website and continue to learn something each time I visit. Your videos are among some of the best on the net.

    Jim

  38. David Welch says:

I like your webpage. I looked at the shop at Adam’s shop and was wondering if you could do an article on dust collection. I have a ton of PVC pipe (4 in) and would like to use it in my shop…but it does not connect to the standard hose. Adam has used it, so how do you control static electricity and make connections to equipment?

    Thanks,

    David

  39. Handplane Essentials is a great book. I’ll still take the bits!
