Robert Jann - Shop of the Week
This week’s Shop of the Week comes from Bob in North Carolina who writes:
The shop is 24 x 24 in a separate building. The shop building was completed in ‘05 as a separate building up in the woods on our mountain property in NC. I thought that 24 x 24 would be adequate, but I see now that I can’t fit any more into the building. It’s my favorite place of all time.

Just to be surrounded by the trees would make that my favorite place in the world. It’s a very long story, but at one stage in my life, the plan was to move to the mountains to build a shop and make cabinets or whatever I could to just make a living. Then I met Sylvia. She wasn’t too keen on the idea of living in “the middle of nowhere”. Oh well, years later and I’m finally ready to start making sawdust in the desert.
Don’t get me wrong, I love where we live, but I would be in heaven to be living in the trees. Thanks for sharing your shop with us, Bob!
Beautiful spot in the woods and a great view out the window. Judging by your comments, you might like to build some true wall cabinets and moving storage below so you could organize easier. I like to work in organized chaos, rather that chaotic organization…
Nice looking shop. My shop looked exactly like that about two weeks ago, but since then I have cleaned it. It looks great now but it never seems to last. Next clean up will be time for Thanksgiving. I’ve always loved being around trees too. That’s I’ve never left Caro Mi. Claude
nice looking shop. I love the fact that it is made out of logs .my shop is a lot smaller it only 16′X30′ but i have a garage door on the backl so i can look in to woods .and cut down on when are you having a garage sale questions.
The NC mountains are beautiful and a great place to have a shop! I envy you for sure! Nice shop and good size too. Although no matter how big you build it, in the end it’s never enough room LOL.
Couldn’t agree with you more on your comment that your shop is your favorite place! I just cant seem to get out there enough! When I have the time I don’t have the money, and when I have the money I don’t have the time! :-)
Looks like its out away from the house, do you have plumbing in the shop for cleaning up brushes..glue etc.. bathroom?
It looks like there is no insulation in the walls. Do you have problems with moisture reeking havoc on your tools and machines?
Just to let you know that you have a second cousin, Joe Jann, in Minnesota who would probably love a workshop in the mountains!
