Pardon My Lack of Sawdust, We’re Moving!
Many of you already know this, but I wanted to make sure everyone knows what’s up. Sometime this week, Nicole and I will receive the keys to our new home and the madness will ensue. Moving a house is crazy enough, but moving a shop is pure insanity! So over the remainder of June, I will be focused on getting situated in the new house and stuffing my entire shop into my new 3-car garage. With the size and electrical requirements of my equipment, I don’t anticipate making this space functional. But I will make sure that the last things to go in are my hand tools and my workbench (ok maybe a few Festool pieces since they are small and portable). This setup will be my reality for as long as it takes to build the new shop.
Content will continue to flow (including videos) on both the Guild site and the regular site, but if it seems like I am a little less “active” than normal, you know why.
Oh and speaking of the Guild site, I am currently working on a little project video. I am making a modified version of Glenn Huey’s Library Magazine Rack. Its a quick project that I can squeeze in before I dismantle the shop. So if you want to build along, go for it and send me your pics.

Its a great rack for the reading room!
You have a great opportunity to organize your shop now!!!lol
go to sketchup and draw out your shop b4 you you set it up and booyah! you have your perfect shop now! 3 car garage! dam! son you have the shop of our dreams now! lol may the swartz be with you!
Good luck with the move! Hope you don’t loose too many tools to the moving gnomes. I’m still looking for old magazines from my last move. Blasted annoying buggers them gnomes.
Moving (and packing) will give you a good time to document all of your tools (for inventory / insurance purposes).
At least that’s what you can think about while doing it.
Best of luck on the move… I’m undertaking a move this summer from KC to Portland… moving my shop is probably half of the total effort… I’ll be following your progress closely.
You never realize how much crap you’ve accumulated until you have to pack it all up.
It’s gotta cost you a fortune to move the Powermatic saw. The moving rep probably took one look at that baby and realized that he could afford that new swimming pool! :)
Moving. Ugh. Tool moving double ugh!! We did it this summer and I swear I had to tell the movers a hundred times “pick it up from the bottom” not what ever part of the tool you could rip off. How my jointer survived I’ll never know.
Are you staying in the West Valley?
Yessir!
Good luck with the move!
Good luck man….if I was local, I’d give ya a hand (so easy to say from the other side of the country ;) ). Best of luck to you guys. It is not fun, but once everything is at the new place…unpacking and setting up is the fun part! With everything in your shop, thats like moving a whole other house. I dont think i’d be alone in loving to see you document how you set up your new shop as you move along (not like you wont have your hands full enough). I’m sure you learned a great deal from your current shop that you’re going to carry forward into the new place. I know we all love seeing a shop come together, and gathering ideas for our own. Again, best of luck on the move, and congrats to you and Nicole!
If you need to store some of your tool I have room for them
At least we are have a down right chilly June for you to move in (it’s at least 10 degrees below normal)! That should help a lot. Greetings from the east valley.
