Hope the shop move goes well. We just moved ourselves, hired movers (seriously, so worth every cent). Still ended up spending a day putting in new lights, plugs and switches. Add some drywall repairs and new paint, a few new plumbing fixtures...and suddenly a month has gone by and I haven't even looked at my new shop space. I had a 115 square foot crawlspace, now I have 240 sq feet of full height basement...can't wait!

I'm sure we'll see it in a podcast sooner or later so it's OK if you don't have time to reply but I was just wondering how you are planning on transporting all that heavy equipment as I may have to do it myself in the near future. Thanks and good luck!

hello Marc. I am also in the process of setting up a shop in a 3 car space. My wife and I just moved last month. I am pretty excited about it because my last house had a two car garage that I shared with my wife. So this is a space upgrade. I am not sure if you remember me, I was the one who bought your Jet 14" band saw, so I was able to see your shop first hand (very impressive). I am very curious how you will be laying things out to acommodate your large inventory of equipment. Take it easy

I also recommend a hardwired home network if you have the means. My wife and I built a new house in 2003 and we had the contractor run several cat5e and RG6 cables to every room. All the cables go to a 48 port patch panel in the basement. It worked out really good recently when we switched from Satellite TV to IPTV. The technician was able to install all the components without running any new cables. He just connected the set-top boxes to my home network and replaced my DSL modem/router. Any of the runs can be used as Internet, IPTV, or landline phone. Maybe one day I'll connect a wireless access point somewhere in the house and have both. Cheers, Steve.

Marc,

Even wireless G has an expected rste of 54mb. Most likely this is faster than your WAN connection. T3's only run at 45mbps. I hope you're not paying $5k a month for your access.

Plus, with cat5e, all you have to do is purchase a gigabit switch, and all of your internal traffic is at 1000Mb. And you don't have to worry about the microwave knocking out your transfer. (Sorry, the network engineer in me is coming out.)

But seriously, hard wiring is the only way to go when you depend on your connection. Wireless is for convenience.
