This is an excerpt from the live Demo Night that took place 7/23/08. The topic was creating Greene & Greene style joint for the Gadget Station project. Its a long video, but lots of details were covered and numerous questions were thrown out by the chat room. This was our best turnout yet with 180+ viewers! This isn’t exactly as fun as the live experience but its a close second for those who couldn’t make it. Enjoy!

Nice demo, thanks. It just shows that there are multiple ways to achieve a goal…just use whatever is comfortable to you.

I noticed you using your Japanese style chisels in the video.
What brand do you like?
I may be going to Japan for my friend’s wedding in November.
Would it be worthwhile to pick up some tools while I am there?
Or is it just easier to use the web and avoid the TSA issues?
What would you recommend?
Whatever it might be I should probably start saving up for it now.

Not sure how much money you would save by getting them overseas, but at those prices, its certainly worth looking into. I imagine if you just put the chisels in your checked luggage you would be fine as far as TSA is concerned.
If you happen to have any local friends there, I am sure that would make the job of locating a reputable dealer a whole lot easier. Does Rockler have a Japanese store? lol.

Just curious, why not set up a stop block on the miter fence to line up your cuts instead of relying on the rip fence? Especially since those Incra miter gauges have that ability built in.
No real reason. Just didn’t think of it. lol

I think the screws are placed a bit too far out in the ends of the wood.Isnt there a risk of a crack when tightening them up later on?
Honestly, the screws were just there for reinforcement. In the future, I probably wouldn’t use screws at all. Kind of overkill. If I want to add reinforcement next time I might just glue in a dowel. So if you really cranked down on the screws, I imagine you could certainly crack it. But I installed mine rather gently and didn’t really torque them that much.
