I shall miss Norm. My Saturdays will not be the same without him, it actually feels like a death in the family not seeing him there with his plaid shirt, I learned alot from watching him and my husband has become a fan. I'm saure there's someone out there who can try to fill his shoes, it just won't be the same.God Bless you Norm and enjoy the easy life of retirement.lol

Norm did get the job done, and did a heck of a job doing it. He never said his was the only way, but his way was a great way of building furniture. I learned a lot, a whole lot from you over the years.

God Bless and good luck!

If ever you are in the neighborhood, I'll by your coffee.

What will the manufacturers of Brad nails and nailers do? This could have a serious impact on their business, I think I will short the stocks of companies that manufacture Brad nails and nailers.
Kidding aside, I learned a lot from Norm and I love his show but I always laugh when he pulls out the brad nailer - in EVERY episode. Norm is a carpenter with some cabinet maker skills. Let's face it, with the tools he has anything can be done.
It isn't really fair to compare David Marks to Norm, its like comparing a Ford Escort to a Ferrari and I'm being nice. Marks is an artist, he extends the character of the wood like only a few others can do (most are dead).
I will miss Norm but there are years of reruns for me to watch.

It's been a long relationship. I've been watching Norm since he was a rookie and enjoyed his good nature and the projects he picked for us wood working hackers. His only competition to my knowledge was a brief stint with David Marks whose projects were almost always over my head. I sure hope Norm reconsiders but if he doesn't, PBS would be very smart to start recycling all his great projects. Even those from many years back would be more than welcome. Being a retiree myself, I can appreciate his desire to cut back. Enjoy your retirement Norm. Your leaving NYWS will be like a great neighbor pulling the plug and moving away.

It's funny. I was just thinking the same thing. How silly is it to mourn the loss of a tv show, but what a show. Fond memories for me, good luck Norm Abram...

What an odd thing: I never thought I would be capable of grieving over the loss of something "inanimate", but here I am saddened over the closure of The New Yankee Workshop. I watched the show since its inception back in 1989. It is this show/Norm Abrams that inspired me to dive into the world of dust making. Norm, if you read this, thanks! You will always be the very best! Good luck to you always. At least we can still enjoy your wisdom and talents on This Old House.

Time for you to start trying on flannel shirts Marc! While I'll miss Norm, we'll all feel the loss of yet another woodworking related show on tv. With your personality and charm, you could really start to bring more people into the hobby.
