Inattention is definitely a major factor in a lot of shop accidents. I have recently found that my focus has increased dramatically just by turning off the shop radio. Of course, I still listen to WTO while sanding, cleaning up, etc. ;)

I am a high school woods teacher and find that most of the injuries that occur during my watch are due to lack of attention. I can preach until I am blue in the face about how important it is to pay attention to the task at hand. It only takes a split second to lose a finger or Permanently injury oneself. Plus the safety videos that I currently have are older than the students which doesn’t help. I’m glad to see work being done to modernize safety.

Rushing or being trired are definitely high-risk. And I’ve found that even when you’re lucky enough not to get hurt (I haven’t yet with power tools, knock on wood), you’re very likely to screw up what you’re working on – an errant pass with the router, putting the mortise in the wrong place, dropping a subassembly on the floor, etc. That’s happened to me one too many times; now I just walk away. Fortunately not being a pro, I can always afford to do that. It’s alot harder, me thinkst, for the pros to stick to a level of professionalism and discipline in their work habits and scheduling, so they don’t end up working while rushed or tired.

Supporting a Safety week is really great! Thanks!

Has anyone complained that this podcast is coming across as iPod unfriendly? This and the next episode both come up as “Will not download – incompatible” etc etc. All the rest of WW material comes across just fine.

  5. Yea I was afraid of that. I just won’t be able to add these to our feed then. There will be a video each day so be sure to check back to our site for the rest. Thanks Steven.

I work and live in Florida, and have found that the Minwax Paste Finishing wax works well to keep my rust-prone tools rust-free.
