Yes, that makes sense. People over here haven't heard of it, except for a few stores in Wilmington that sell furniture from manufacturers on the left coast.

Haha thanks Frank. In some respects, I just never grew up. :)
Alder is actually a pretty good furniture wood. Its not as dense or as durable as I usually prefer, but it can be made to look like more expensive woods quite easily. When I was making custom pieces for folks in this area, alder was the #1 requested wood. But the reason for its popularity is that it looks decent on its one, its incredibly cheap at only a couple bucks a board foot and can be made to look like maple, cherry, or walnut with just a little stain.

I've never met a biological engineer who became a woodworker who started a website with a cool name who really helped me get into woodworking before you, but these shots are what I like about you. Can't take yourself too seriously. By the way, is alder a decent furniture wood? I see you using it mostly for mockups or jigs, except for a bookcase or armoire or something you made, and I found a furniture store near me selling stuff advertised as being "solid alder" and I'm wondering if that even means better.

I don't know about Marc the poser (although those are some sweet moves) but that is one Wicked Cool paint job on that tablesaw. I think generally in advertising the model is supposed to be prettier than the machine.
