Failed Promotional Shots
Over the past few years, we’ve had to take promotional shots for various reasons. As it turns out, the camera, the lighting, and composing the shot are the easy parts. Getting me to take a serious picture is the REAL challenge. I was just digging through some old shots and thought you might find it funny to see just a small sample of our “failed” promotional shots. I have no shame.

Nicole is a lucky, lucky lady!
Yeah massive FAIL
Oh Monk, I mean Marc, (remember that?) You are always good for a laugh!
omg…my newly healing surgery wounds are pissed at you cause of the LOL I just did. So funny :D Nicole- you got a hot mess of a catch on your hands!
I can see why some of those failed lol
The serious shot of you leaning on the table might have worked if you had been wearing a sleeveless t-shirt.
Funny stuff. I like #5, and #7 because they could almost be serious. I’m one for subtlety in comedy.
Dude, I printed out image 6 and made a poster for my shop wall. Is that wrong?
LOL nice I’m glad I’m not the only one ;)
How about I get some 8×10 glossies made up?
Haha, flames? :D
Dude, are you SURE you like girls?
I can promise you he does :P
I think the shirt says it all :D
Hey, if I had a free, custom, jacked-up, turbo-charged and tricked-out Powermatic like that, I’d be giddy too!! Drooool.
Marc! Cheryl says picture #6 should be of you NAKED! I mean, how much pride could you possibly have left. I like the “nerd” one myself.
One word – Sassy!
MAN!!! I love those shots… stuck a bunch all over the lawn and the moles are GONE!!! lol
Great sense of humor guys.
Your big thumbs-up is now by laptop background!
Hey, not so sure about the poses, but the shirt was juuuusssst right. LOL
So, ah, like which ones were the “failed” ones, eh?
I noticed you have the cast-iron legs and the blanchard ground top on your saw. I thought you had the standard black legs on there. Or was the the old saw?
Hey Kevin. Yeah that was the old one. This is a PM Custom from Wood Werks Supply.
My teenage daughter was looking over my shoulder and she squealed when photo #6 was displayed. She said “He’s cute, I like that picture!”
(Nicole, you better keep a tight hold on Marc’s leash! LOL)
Well, that’s all the approval I need. I found my new header image for the website!
I agree with Brian
Frightening on so many levels !!
All I thought of when I looked at picture #6 was I bet that outfeed table won’t work well at that height.
I don’t know about Marc the poser (although those are some sweet moves) but that is one Wicked Cool paint job on that tablesaw. I think generally in advertising the model is supposed to be prettier than the machine.
Nice costume change for the last shot!!
Lory
WARNING….TRYING TO EXPLAIN WHAT YOUR LOOKING AT TO PEOPLE WHEN THEY SEE IT , WILL BE VERY HARD
I’ve never met a biological engineer who became a woodworker who started a website with a cool name who really helped me get into woodworking before you, but these shots are what I like about you. Can’t take yourself too seriously. By the way, is alder a decent furniture wood? I see you using it mostly for mockups or jigs, except for a bookcase or armoire or something you made, and I found a furniture store near me selling stuff advertised as being “solid alder” and I’m wondering if that even means better.
Haha thanks Frank. In some respects, I just never grew up. :)
Alder is actually a pretty good furniture wood. Its not as dense or as durable as I usually prefer, but it can be made to look like more expensive woods quite easily. When I was making custom pieces for folks in this area, alder was the #1 requested wood. But the reason for its popularity is that it looks decent on its one, its incredibly cheap at only a couple bucks a board foot and can be made to look like maple, cherry, or walnut with just a little stain.
Yes, that makes sense. People over here haven’t heard of it, except for a few stores in Wilmington that sell furniture from manufacturers on the left coast.
