Project Name: Swivel Standing Mirrors

Finish Used: The finishing was with GF waterbased stain. The darker mirror is a combination of multiple stains. Shellac to seal and a few applications of the new Enduro-Var waterbased poly from GF. The finish is amazing.

Project Description: The process began as a swivel mirror for my wife’s birthday. During the process, I watched one of Marc’s shows and I was inspired to attempt another design on the feet and that was the sliding dove tails. So what do with the extra mirror? Sell it? Give it away? The answer was the most obvious and that was to finish it for my mother and give it to her as a Christmas present.

All joinery is designed to not be seen for the most part. I used dowels for the cross members, half-laps for one set of legs and a sliding dove tail for the other legs.
The swivels are 1/4” steel pins with steel covers. This allows for an easy swivel. There is a slight taper to the mirror for aesthetic reasons and for functionality. Fun project and the ladies of my life love them!

My wife and I recently worked together on a project for our 9 year old god daughter. Her mother informed us that she could use a vanity to start keeping her “girl” stuff in. We started with a simple idea on paper. Then moved onto initial construction. Stained the piece. Of course it needed a mirror. And finally got finished in time for Christmas. Oh, yea. We made and upholstered the stool as well. We used some of your finishing tips (used a wipe on varnish for the first time) and are very happy with results.
