Adam’s Shop – Viewer Shop

Adam is from Pennsylvania and this is his shop:

I am a novice woodworker. I started acquiring the tools needed before I really knew what I was getting myself into. I traveled with some friends to a Grizzly scratch and dent sale and ended up coming home with my table saw and planer, before I even had a shop to put them in. I slowly started collecting the tools I would need, such as routers, mitre saw, biscuit joiner, drill press, etc. Then I began to build my first shop as an edition to my garage. I had to tear down the 8’ X 24’ shed attached to the garage, it was starting to fall over; and constructed a 24’ x 16’ shop in its place.
Over that time I have purchased tools as I found a use for them, like the dust collector, band saw, 6” jointer, and numerous miscellaneous hand tools. I am currently in the process of selecting projects that are building my skills in different areas, such as work benches, book cases, cast iron radiator covers, etc. My main interests are furniture building, but before I can get there I am trying to find smaller projects that are going to build upon my skills and knowledge.

That is a pretty sweet shop for a “novice”… You seem to be well equipped to handle most projects in your future ! Have fun with it!

Very nice shop and collection of grizzly tools. I see you have quite a bit of SDS ducing on your DC, and if its a 2 HP then I think we have the same same DC. I haven done the ducting in my shop yet, and I was wondering if you would suggest doing the same amount of ducting, provided there are blast gates, in my shop? Thanks

Great use of that space Adam. Love it. Pic #7 has a dust pipe going down to the ground. What’s the deal with that?

Very Nice! I myself am a novice at best. One day I hope to have a shop half as nice. I like the Tiger Woods poster as well.

I like it! It has given me some ideas for a small shop I am building now.

  9. Ryan says:

Nice! Try Using a dust deputy with your shop vac. It dosnt clog. http://www.dustdeputy.com

    Nice Shop, Adam.

I was wondering about the OSB sheathing? How think is it, and does it hold nails well? I’ve seen 3/4″ T&G OSB sub-flooring for $10.66 a piece. I’m considering using it to sheath the inside of my garage. Do you think it can hold screws well enough to hang heavy things (such as my 16′ long miter saw bench) from it?

Also, regarding the dust deputy Ryan reccomends, if you plan on keeping your shop vac, they go for it. If you’re willing to pick up a new vacuum, I’d highly reccomend the Ridgid Blower/Vac conversion from Clear Vue (the same company that makes Marc’s Cyclone). It only works on one model of Ridgid vacuum, but it replaces the top of the vacuum and uses the 16 gallon vacuum barrel to collect chips, so you empty it about 1/3 as often as much as you would with a dust deputy which uses a 5 gallon bucket. Also, due to the custom shape, I think the cyclonic seperation is a bit better.

    Good luck with the space.

Excellent shop set up, Adam. I, like you, am getting started with a shop. I’ll have power next week!!! Hopefully we will see some of your stuff coming out of the shop. I plan to post some pics of mine as soon as I get the basic setup done. Thanks for the pics.

  12. Carmel says:

Great shop Adam! I was wondering what kind of heater is that?

  13. Claude Stewart says:

Pretty nice start. Did you put the shop addition on yourself? I like the doors, think I’ll make a couple myself.

  14. Wes says:

Wow, that’s the worst shop I have ever seen! I would be happy to take it all off your hands so you won’t be embarrassed when friends come over.

Seriously, nice job. I wish I started like that. Now lets see some projects.

  15. Dave H says:

Great shop! I really like the Ford Country sign above the door… You do need to do something about the S-10 in the background though…

  16. Jeff B says:

    Hey Adam,

Nice shop man, Nice lineup of tools and good layout and it looks like you keep it well organized and clean, Witch is what i like because a clean shop is a safe shop. I also have a shop its pretty small though, its about the size of one car garage it gets the job done for what im doing right now, but i would like to expand it sometime. I like the poster but really man it should be dodge lol, and or playboy models lol. anyway keep up the good work.
