A Lot to be Thankful For

November 22, 2007 | Filed Under Blog

After one of the most defining years of my career, I have ALOT to be thankful for. And I am usually pretty good about showing my appreciation as things happen but I still think its important to thank your friends and family on these “days of reflection”. So a quick list of things I’m thankful for (in case you haven’t read enough of these lists yet).

I am thankful for sharp blades and the skill and know-how to use them. I am thankful for those chilly workshop mornings where the taste of coffee and the smell of wood dust dominate my senses. I am thankful for good food and NFL football. I am thankful for the technology that allows me to bring The Wood Whisperer to life. I am thankful to our friends and fans who keep coming back to watch our videos and read our posts. I am thankful to our sponsors who took a chance on a relative “nobody” in the hopes that he would become “somebody”. Let’s hope we are on our way. ;) And most importantly, I am thankful for my family. Whether it was my mom who gave me the “you can do ANYTHING” attitude, or my step-dad who taught me how to swing a hammer. And the one person who stands in a class of her own is my wife Nicole. It’s no secret to anyone how important her role is in my life. And believe me, I try to remind her everyday. I truly consider myself one of the luckiest men on earth.

So, I’m curious. What are you folks thankful for? By the way, HAPPY TURKEY DAY!

    Great post Marc,

I don’t know if time (or space) will permit me to list all of the things I’m thankful for. I am certainly thankful for my family… my wife first of all for not only putting up with me because she… see’s potential??? What vision she has!!! And she makes me the happiest man I could ever be on a daily basis… My 7 beautiful daughters (4 mine, 3 hers). The God given ability to know that I need to work and have been blessed with a wonderful job that allows me not only the time to have a hobby like woodworking but also the finances to do it right. And finally I’m thankful for you… Marc, who has followed his passion and given us not only an excellent resource for our passion, but also a continuous source of entertainment. I’m thankful that your sponsor’s have had the insight to invest in you and Nicole and given you this opportunity. I hope it keeps growing into eNORMous proportions. I want to wish you and your family the Happiest of Thanksgiving’s and look forward to continuing to support you and your passion!!!

    Sincerely,

    Larry and Michele McDaniel

I am thankful for my garage. It is my sanctuary where worship is done to the chorus of a saw blade whirring, the steambox hissing, and the sander spinning. I am thankful for being a Buckeye in the age of Tressel. I’m also pretty thankful for this web page, I have learned much from it and have been inspired to excel. Mostly though, I am thankful for the wife who has supported the choice I made to pursue furniture making. Mccomas… out

Like you and others, family is the #1 thing I’m thankful for. Our first child is on the way in March so that was extra special this year.

But let me say, among the things I’m thankful for, is having technology like this site that I can access to help me as I flounder through this new hobby of mine. I can’t imagine trying to do this without the wealth of resources you and others have provided. But mostly you. :-)

Yes, I’m thankful for family, enough money to keep a roof over our heads and tools in my shop, but also thankful that people take the time to educate and share with those of us who aren’t nearly as skilled or learned. The podcasts, information, and links have been a HUGE help to me. So thank YOU, Marc and Nicole.

    Happy turkey day to all!

I am thankful for all the men and women who serve to protect our freedom so that I can have all the other things that I am thankful for. (which is pretty much what you guys said) Happy Turkey Day

Wow, where to begin? In a day and age where apprenticeships barely ( if at all) exist, people with knowledge to share have found a way to take advantage of the technologies that have blossomed and fill a much needed gap in our society. Because of people like you, Matt, Neil, Tommy, a craft that was losing ground to the mass producers of the world, has a real chance of being passed to future generations. I’m thankful you and Nicole are taking this journey and that I get to benefit from your success! Oh yeah, I’m also grateful for the love of my wife Sylvia, my friends and my dogs.

I work in the Community Services field in Australia and was introduced to Thanksgiving through a young lady visiting from America, at a Rotary Club Meeting. Definitely one of the better things to come from America as well as the Woodwhisperer that allows me that escape in my shed through the great information I obtain from this site.

I am thankful for community, a community that has people like Marc & Nicole that do great things for other people. A great service to the wood working community, I thank you for your generosity and support of others.

Things I’m thankful for: My wife and all of our children, 7, four hers and 3 mine. And all of our grandkids,6 and all our great grandkids 2. I’m thankful also for my wife and I being retired and only having to work when we want to. I’m also thankful for being able to still be productive and having beat cancer. I’m also thankful for my mother in law still being with us as all of our other parents and mentors are gone. and I’m also thankful for my faith that has grown stronger over the years. Oh I’m thankful for that huge chalk line that I won. By the way it worked great on a 80 ft. length of roof. Claude

I was able to re-outfit my 20 year old shop equipment the past 2 years and haver never had so much fun woodworking as I currently enjoy. My recovery has progressed very well. I’m able to spend 4 to 6 hrs. 4 days a week. I pray everyone has enjoyed the good fortune I have in this blessed year of 2007.

    my career
    my experiences
    my successes
    my failures
and my perspective on life as a result of the previous seven

I’m thankful for everything mentioned here already! Everyone has the true spirit of the holiday so I don’t need to add much… My wife Susan has been the light of my life and I couldn’t live without her. I’m thankful for our three wonderful children (two hers, one ours). I’m thankful for good fortune and good health so that I can enjoy my time with my family. Thank you Marc and Nicole for sharing your lives with the rest of us and constantly reminding us that life is good! Oh, I’m thankful that I’m not the guy with seven daughters!!! Two is already overwhelming me :)

I’m so thankful that I found a husband who is so supportive of all that I do on a daily basis and is always there to calm me down in my most frustrating situations. I’m thankful for all the mistakes that I’ve made in life and the ability to learn from them to make me a better person. I’m thankful for the choice to be whatever I want to be and the ability to live in a country that encourages that independence. I’m thankful for the selfless acts of our soldiers and their dear families who go out every day and risk their lives for our freedom and the freedom of other countries. I’m thankful for the family that I have even though it is small. I’m thankful for my dear friends and their unwavering friendship. I’m thankful for Marc at The Wood Whisperer for keeping the beautiful art of woodworking alive in this day of technology and mechanical gadgets!!! I’m just a thankful person who is so happy to have had some great experiences in life and who is looking forward to many more experiences in life to be thankful for!!!

Got something to say?
